2008, Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards, Best Residential Building up to $15 Million
Ciel Apartments are located on the edge of the Brisbane river at New Farm. Form Landscape Architects collaboratively worked with the architect designing and documenting the projects swimming pools, fences, structures, garden walls and the soft landscape.
Framed by a water feature wall and steel arbour, the pedestrian entry path creates a formal and intimate transition to the foyer of the building providing pleasant glimpses into the communal swimming pool and landscape. Significant attention was focused on the communal swimming pool to address levels of privacy from the street while providing a highly functional recreational space for residents. Water wraps a feature stone wall engaging the development entrance with water from the pool. Private gardens and generous lawn terraces were designed for the large river apartments reinforcing the visual connection to the Brisbane river, story bridge and Brisbane CBD.
Revegetation of the riverbank was a major consideration in the design and has been achieved with the transitional planting from semiformal exotic species close to the building edge to dense planting with local endemic species along the river bank and riparian zone.
