South City Square (SCSQ) is a multi staged urban renewal project located 2km from the Brisbane CBD. SCSQ proposes to deliver a vibrant mix of retail and residential development encircling a generous green space at the core. The landscape vision for this new development is to provide an engaging, vibrant and modern precinct within this emerging area of Woolloongabba. Local hubs such as the nearby antique precinct and Stone’s Corner have an established culture of gastronomics, retail industriousness and artistic creativity within the subtropical context of pre-war Woolloongabba. Drawing on this cultural foundation, SCSQ will link existing precincts and redefine the future identity of the local area.

Stage 1 proposes a variety of retail outlets to the ground floor, 108 residential apartments to the upper floors, and private recreational spaces to the rooftop. Pedestrian zones and circulation optimised at street level, using strong way finding language throughout the strong pavement treatment. Boundaries between vehicular and pedestrian zones are blurred to prioritise pedestrian movement and human interaction. The rooftop will provide residents with a series of recreation opportunities organised into a series of garden rooms. An elevated plunge pool, spa, and sun deck facilitate swimming with views to the CBD skyline. Residents are also afforded BBQ & Teppanyaki facilities alongside a private lawn with informal seating. Subtropical planting and architectural battening provides tranquillity, enclosure and definition to the garden rooms. Resort style recreation is brought to inner city living on the stage 1 rooftop.
